The movement of the cantilever in the groove of the vinyl record creates shocks that cause vibration of this plate, friction in the bearings and engine noise also creates vibrations that pass to the vinyl plate. Even vibration from the floor and acoustic noise also accumulates on vinyl records. All this extraneous vibration then gets into the sound signal as a distortion.
